Grow your own citrus, it's easy!
Growing lemons, oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, limes, tangelos, calamondins, and more in Kentucky is much easier than you might think. It does require rolling your plant(s) outside to enjoy spring, summer, and fall, and back inside for the winter, but that's also not as difficult as it sounds, and you can produce edible fruit from surprisingly small plants.
If you don't want to bring them in your home for the winter, we can suggest an alternative for storing your plant for the winter.
An added benefit is enjoying the heavenly fragrance of citrus blossoms wafting through your home in season.
Many of our customers have been growing and enjoying fresh citrus in their homes for years with our plants, so we'd be happy to assist you in getting started doing the same.
We usually have citrus trees and shrubs available year-round, although the variety of fruits is wider at certain times of year. Stop by anytime to see what we have in stock, or ask us to order the one(s) that you're looking for, and we can usually get it on our directly from our growers in Florida.
We have excellent instructions for general care of citrus & gardenias (look under "Citrus Care, below) and how to transistion them seasonally from inside to outside and back (look under "Winter Care" below). When it's time to transplant, you can bring it to us to do it for you, or do it yourself with our specially formulated citrus potting mix and fertilizers.
Our citrus trees are usually approximately 3' to 5' tall. Citrus shrubs are approximately 1' to 2'. Both produce fruit. They also make lovely, elegant gifts, so we'll be happy to dress them up in a clay pot with a top dressing of moss, or leave them in their black plastic grower's pot to drop into a more decorative container.
