National Fragrance Day
March 21
Most of us love fragrances. In fact, consumers spend tens of billions of dollars on perfumes and colognes each year, while some of the world's most beautiful scents can literally be right under our noses for decades when we plant the right trees, shrubs, and flowers in our yards.
On today's #NationalFragranceDay, we suggest some of our favorite beautiful and beloved plants to bring your senses into peaceful ecstasy.
Consider planting Common Lilac (pictured), Mock Orange, Woodland Phlox, Basswood, Fringe tree, Black Locust tree, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Peonies, American Wisteria, Lavender, Hyacinth, Viburnum, Sweetshrub, Lilies, Roses, Iris, Lemon Verbena, and Tuberose. (Many of these plants have some cultivars that are fragrant and some that are not, but we can help you with that too.)
Indoors/outdoors you can grow Citrus, Gardenia, Jasmine, and Plumeria.
We keep some of these in stock or we can source all of these plants for you according to season, so stop by or give us a call to turn your yard into a fragrant paradise from spring through fall.

World Chipmunk Day
March 22
Today we celebrate #WorldChipmunkDay. Much like that of our friends, the squirrels, the advantages of Chipmunks' presence in our yards actually far outweigh any negative feelings that you might harbor toward them. Apart from being completely adorable, Chipmunks are great at planting seeds, nuts, and beneficial fungi while they aerate the soil, all of which play crucial roles in forest renewal. Even in your backyard, Chipmunks are providing necessary contributions to soil health and much more.
With all that they do for the forests, the environment, local ecology, and our yards, consider planting trees and shrubs that offer them the shelter and food that they need.
We can help you with some of those plants which will also beautify your yard. Consider these Kentucky native trees, which will also benefit other types of wildlife: Hazelnut, Hickory, Black Walnut, Pecan, Oak, Chestnut, and Beech. Adding any of these trees (even just one) can enhance the beauty of your yard, improve your property value, and make a world of difference to the wildlife in your neighborhood.

Weed Appreciation Day
March 28
Today is National #WeedAppreciationDay so we'd like to direct your attention to several wonderful Kentucky native plants that have the word "weed" in their names, which can actually be very valuable additions to the beauty of your yard and outstanding for pollinators:
- Joe Pye Weed (pictured; tall, like a candy store for pollinators, loves moist soil)
- Milkweed (it doesn't get any better than this!)
- Ironweed (very tall, beneficial for late summer/early fall pollinators)
- Pokeweed (loved by songbirds)
-Jewelweed (annual that reseeds, loves growing in the shade)
-Sneezeweed (ironically, it won't make you sneeze! Officially named Helenium, very pretty, also loved by pollinators in late summer)
- Thimbleweed
Plenty of other plants that are commonly thought of as weeds are also fantastic plants for pollinators:
- Any Goldenrod species (superior plant for late season pollinators migrating south)
- Mint (definitely do NOT plant non-native mints which are invasive; our native mints are great!)
We won't have them in stock until mid-April, but we're happy to take special orders and call you when they arrive from our grower. They will be in 4" pots for $12.50
